If you purchased your domain through Cococart but want to move it to another registrar (for example, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains, etc.), you’ll need to follow a few important steps.
🔑 What You’ll Need Before You Start
Before you initiate a domain transfer, make sure you:
Have access to your domain’s admin (registrant) contact email.
— This is where transfer authorization codes and approvals will be sent.
Confirm the domain is eligible for transfer.
— Most domains cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or previous transfer as per ICANN policy.
Ensure your domain isn’t locked.
— Registrars often lock newly issued domains to prevent unauthorized transfers.
What can we help you with?
To begin a domain transfer out of Cococart, please reach out to our support team (e.g., via your dashboard chat or [email protected]). Let us know:
The domain name you want to transfer.
The registrar you plan to transfer to.
We’ll assist with the specific requirements and unlock process needed to generate your transfer authorization (EPP) code. Once support confirms, the registrar status on your domain will be updated from locked to unlocked so it can be transferred out.
This step is crucial — domains that are locked cannot be transferred. After unlocking, you’ll receive an authorization code (also called an EPP code). This is a secure key that your new registrar will require to start the transfer. 💡 Make sure your admin email can receive messages — this is where many registrars send confirmation requests.
💡 Note: Some transfers, such as those to Cloudflare, may be account-to-account transfers within the same underlying registrar rather than a full registrar change. In such cases, the domain remains within the same registrar but moves to your personal account.
Your current registrar (via our registrar partner) will send a confirmation email to the domain’s administrative contact.
👉 You’ll typically need to click an approval link to confirm the transfer.
📌 What will happen after the transfer
Your domain will now be managed through your new registrar.
DNS settings may need to be updated (for website or email services).
Your Cococart shop will no longer automatically renew the domain — manage renewals directly with your new provider. Your shop will also be reverted to the default .cococart.co domain.- The domain’s registration period remains unaffected by the transfer and will remain active until its normal expiration date.
DNS records and nameserver configurations remain unchanged unless you choose to modify them manually, ensuring no disruption to your domain’s functionality.
Once the domain is transferred, Cococart will no longer bill you for renewals. Billing will be managed by your new registrar.
After the transfer, you can update the domain’s registrant and administrative contact information directly through your new registrar’s platform to ensure accuracy.
❓ Common Questions
Q: Can I transfer the domain immediately after purchase?
A: Most domains are restricted from being transferred within 60-90 days of registration due to ICANN policy.
Q: What if I don’t get the EPP code?
A: If you don’t receive the authorization code, check your domain’s administrative email (including Spam/Junk), and contact support to resend it.
Q: Will my site go down during the transfer?
A: Generally, your domain remains active throughout the transfer. Only DNS configuration changes might cause brief interruptions.
Q: What if I'm transferring to a registrar like Cloudflare that uses the same underlying registrar?
A: In this case, the transfer is an account-to-account transfer, and the domain remains within the same registrar while moving to your personal account.
